Young Kids Love Disney

By Danielle Russell

Is a trip with your little ones to visit Mickey what you are planning? Here are some ways to spice up the magic.

Meals with a Disney flavor

To build up the excitement, cook creative meals for your kids that have a Disney flavor. An example would be buying uncooked pasta in the shape of Mickey Mouse and then whipping up a delicious and healthy meal for your princes and princesses with that. "The Gourmet Pantry" in DTD carries it. To order, you can call them at 407-828-3886.

Avoid the crowd

The smart thing to do is go when schools are in session because crowds are annoying especially if you have kids with you.

Being Hands-free

A hip hammock is what you should consider bringing if you are traveling with an infant or toddler. If your child is between 15 to 35 pounds, the hammock works perfectly. While waiting for the bus, standing in line, tending to your older kids and browsing in shops, it keeps you hands-free. Another idea is to take your toddler on rides with the hammock. It's very handy. Your trip will also become more enjoyable because of this.

You can save your sanity

While waiting in line, kids get impatient so bring snacks and toys to distract them. Frequent breaks should be taken to prevent exhausting kids. In the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, kids can chill out at Ariel's Grotto and Donald's Boat. Ariel's Grotto is a great place for kids to cool off in the kids water area and the interactive play area of Donald's Boat allows children to ring the bell and steer the ship of Donald's ill-fated leaky. You may wish to arrive at the parks early in the morning, so that your kids can have a nap in the afternoon. They will then be refreshed for the fireworks and the parades.

Do your research on the rides

Because young children may be frightened by loud noise or darkness, it is therefore important to research rides beforehand. A nice alternative is to duck into Test Track's gift shop/ exit and let him/her ride on the cars in the shop if your child is too young to ride Test Track at Epcot.

Dining options

When you are looking at some peace and quiet when feeding your baby/toddler, you can then go to one of the free Baby Care Centers that's found in each Disney park. In these centers, there are high chairs, toys, as well as rockers. There are even formula and baby food for sale. Your trip won't be complete if the little ones don't get to mingle with their favorite characters so don't forget to plan one character meal.
