Come winter time, people start thinking about taking a vacation. Obviously, their destination would be someplace where the weather is much warmer. The break from the cold will recharge your batteries and you will have no problem enduring the rest of the winter. You need to do some thinking when planning a winter trip.
Find out how much time you have for your vacation so you can decide how long you will be travelling. Your next item for consideration will be your vacation spot and south is a very good direction. A short vacation means you cannot waste precious time travelling so you cannot go very far, perhaps a few hours flying time at most.
Consider visiting southern Florida which has loads of options and tropical weather throughout the winter. Miami would be a good place with its many beaches and plenty of entertainment at South Beach. For more peace and quiet, you can go to the Florida Keys islands. A prime destination would be the Key West, a charming city where the family can have fun with water sports and have a taste of its nightlife.
A bit farther (but not by much) is the Caribbean. It is out of the country so you will need your travel papers plus you will have to spend more for air fares but that it's all justified. You can have your pick of several islands that are individually rich in culture and history, having been at one time or another under old colonial powers. Special mention would be the Dominican Republic where beautiful resorts are available at affordable packages that include accommodation, food and some water sports.
For a longer vacation and a bigger budget, go to the South American countries where it is summer during winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Rio de Janeiro has the world famous beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana with Sugar Loaf as a rugged mountain backdrop. Rio is a popular tourist destination so there are full service hotels, good food and a very lively night life. At the other side of the world would be the subcontinent of Australia. The cities of Sydney and Melbourne are European in all respects and the Gold Coast is warm enough with plenty of beaches. If you're up for some adventure then visit the interior and explore the outback.
Southeast Asia is a popular destination due to its affordability and richness in culture. Singapore is not only full of sights, luxury hotels and culture but it is known for being a very clean country. Malaysia also has plenty of beach resorts with white sand where tourists can choose to stay in small bungalows or upscale resorts. Another favorite country in the Southeast Asia region is Thailand which has its share of beautiful beaches and where visitors will feel much welcomed by the smiling and hospitable people.
If you need to find some warm weather then there are many options for winter vacations. Just don't forget to bring along your camera and sun block.
