Top 5 Tips On Getting Upgraded On Flights

By Bernard Bowers

Many travelers don't see paying thousands of dollars for a business class ticket in order to fly in greater comfort as an option. But what most people don't realize is that a lot of airlines will upgrade passengers from economy class for free as long as they meet certain guidelines. These tips come direct from the check in staff of some of the best-known airlines, and are considered by many regular travellers to be the holy grail of getting something for nothing.

You Need to Look the Part. Make sure that you are dressed smartly when you travel. If you are wearing shorts and a scruffy t-shirt, then there is almost no chance of getting a free upgrade so at the very least, wear pants and a shirt when you check in. Wearing a suit and going overboard is not really necessary but you can if you want to. Although the key is to look smart, you don't have to look like you're trying too hard.

Turn Up Early. If there are seats to spare in business class, then the check-in staff will know straight away because they know how many passengers are traveling on a particular flight well in advance.

Being Polite is a Must. Try to imagine yourself in the place of the check in staff. Would you reward a person who gives you attitude and starts shouting the odds, or someone who is pleasant and gives them the time of day. There may be 250 people in the queue behind you, so make them remember you. You may well get a pleasant surprise if you smile, flirt, use their name, and be nice.

Are You a Frequent Flier? If you join an airline's frequent flier program, you are far more likely to be at the front of the queue for an upgrade, as the airline will want to reward you for your loyalty. You may not fly regularly, but you can still go to the airline's website and join their program online. This will be well worth the time and it will only take a minute or two.

Ask Around. You may be aware of the fact that unless you ask for something, you won't get it so make sure that you do but also make sure that it's at the right time. If no amount of charm has elicited a smile from the check in staff and if they look stressed, then don't bother asking them and wait until you get to the gate. If the counter staff have responded well, when they ask you if you have any specific seat request, be cheeky and say "First Class" to them. It might just work.

What you should know about transportation for your apartments and real estate in Rio de Janeiro?

By Rodrigo Dutra

With regards to ownership of apartments or real estate in Rio de Janeiro there are several things to look at. As with any purchase a great deal of research is required to be done about properties that are for sale. One major consideration that people regularly forget about is transportation. How will you get around? Though sometimes this is easy to forget, it is certainly something that should be considered before you are closing deals on penthouse apartments in Copacabana or Ipanema.

So to start, what are your alternatives as far as transportation? In Rio de Janeiro there are many. The possible choices could include car, bus, taxi, subway and in some cases boats. Naturally, your methods of transportation will also be dictated by your financial situation as well as convenience. If you live in the south zone (Ipanema, Copacabana, etc.) then the subway is a very fast and cost effective option.

On the other hand if you live in Barra da Tijuca or even Recreio you will have to look at other possibilities, since a subway won't be completed to these locations for quite a while. Having a car is necessary in these parts. Though cars tend to be high priced, it may be possible to find a good deal on a used car that is for sale. Otherwise you'll be travelling with the masses by bus. It should also be noted that even with a car, travel from Barra to other parts of Rio de Janeiro can be overwhelming, especially during rush hour traffic. This is definitely something to make a note if you are looking into real estate in these places.

If you're searching to purchase apartments in a place such as Niteroi a car may not be required due to the availableness of the ferryboat. This will allow you to be at the city center in 15 minutes. Again, this a great cost effective method of travel. Though Niteroi is just outside of Rio, the lower costs could make this an desirable option. Though it's not going to be like having a penthouse in the south zone, it's a more economical option.

Whatever your resolution ends up being, it's important to review all of your options as well as understand the traffic conditions when looking into real estate that is for sale. You're not just planning to travel here for a vacation or a holiday. You are planning to live here. In the long run this will help you save some headaches.

Are Airline Credit Cards Right for You?

By Tim Parker

There's an old adage among people who regularly invest in the stock market. Depending on who you talk to, it will sound slightly different but it goes something like this: "Never trust airlines and ______" the last word depends on the particular investor. Many investors say autos. Others say the movies but almost all of them mention airlines.

What does this have to do with airline mileage credit cards? You'll find out but first, let's take a look at what an airline miles credit card is. With the large and diverse offerings of credit cards, you can find a card with just about any perk imaginable, but the airline rewards credit card was one of the first reward-style cards on the market.

These cards give you rewards points for your purchases in the form of discounts on airline tickets. Some card issuers will give you frequent flyer miles for the airline of your choice while others, will give you a gift certificate (or card) or even offer to book your flight for you.

Sometimes your new airline credit card will give you access to the airline lounge that you see inside of the airport. Often these lounges have comfortable seating, internet access, and many other amenities that make your travel experience more enjoyable. Additionally, you will qualify for discounted rates at participating hotel chains, rental car companies, and restaurants.

Just like most credit cards on the market, the better your credit, the better your card interest rate will be. So remember that every time you pay your bills on time, it may earn you a lower interest rate on your next credit card. If you do your homework, you are sure to find a card that will give you bonus points just for opening the card. With very minimal research, one can find 5,000 or more bonus points being offered to new card holders..

Do you want rewards for spending or traveling? Some credit cards will offer you rewards for each mile you travel. Similar to sky miles or other airline rewards, if you travel long distances, this may be the best option for you. The other option is to be rewarded for each dollar you spend anywhere. This is very similar to how most rewards cards work.

When you pick a rewards card, it's important to do your research and think about which card is right for you. If you don't do a lot of traveling, a more general rewards card from one of the major credit card companies may be more beneficial to you.

Never invest in the airlines, right? Here's why it may be important to you. Some experts advise never taking out a rewards card that is tied solely to frequent flyer miles because most of the airlines always seem to be a few days away from going bankrupt. Additionally, changes or total elimination of the frequent flyer programs could leave you without any rewards.

Instead, look at the rewards cards that come from the well known credit card companies - the ones who have a large selection of travel rewards. By doing this, you're almost sure to keep those rewards points available to you.

Rio Apartments Rental properties Are Better Valued In Barra As Opposed To Copacabana

By Edward Langosta

Barra da Tijuca is the lengthiest beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, having six Miles of clean and tropical green water. It is likewise often frequented by rejuvenating waves inviting surfers each for novices and experienced surfers. It is simply twenty minutes from Ipanema and Copacabana. A normal surfer trip in Brasil almost always involves getting a new board and utilizing the bus out to Barra to try it out.

If you possess a apartment in Barra or you go out early and aim to stay there the entire day, you might appreciate the very first few miles of the beach of which are filled with bars and seafood eateries, so you may have a snack as you take a break from riding the waves.

In addition to restaurants, you'll come across several "barracas" (in Portuguese) or kiosks, which are simply food and drink stalls on the beach. It's relaxed on weekdays, and wild on hot summer weekends from December to March. An extension of this Beach is referred to as Praia do Pepe. This name was provided to the beach simply because Pep was the nickname of a young boy selling beer, mineral water and home made, natural sandwiches at the beach as well as practicing many sporting activities.

Whilst renting from the numerous apartments available in this tropical area is the strategy to stay, you can get there in several ways. The majority of buses don't pass the entire beach extension, so if you need to go by bus, it will leave you on the backstreet and you need to walk a little bit. There tend to be certain vans that go there as well although if you desire a secure bet, the best alternative is to take a taxi or rent a car to get there.

Buses from downtown to Barra (The Alvorada) pass by means of Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach, Ipanema, Leblon and downtown Rio. Just stick your hand out there any time they approach you and they'll pick you up.

Making A Cheap Reservation With Little Trouble

By Richard Horowitz

With less travelers in the off peak travel season, the lowered Hotel rates, airline rates and car rental prices are a good reason to plan your trip. One good way to take advantage of this would be booking a hotel room and getting about 50% off - but before you do this, always confirm first with the hotel if you would still qualify for the offer.

Some hotels give discounts to certain people like students, military contingents, Senior citizens, honeymooners etc. Ask for these discounts and what their details, you can save a lot with these.

If you have children within a certain age limit, they may be able to stay at the hotel for free, so don't forget to inquire about the particulars of such deals if available.

If you have no specific preferences for a hotel location, a name-your-price website can help you with both car and hotel bookings. They'll do the haggling for you and you're sure not to over-budget.

Some hotels and even car rental companies, give "free days" if you use their services for more than a week. If you're planning to stay a while, this could help.

Make sure that the room fees are the only ones you're paying for. There are hotels that have all sorts of secret charges that suddenly appear to shock the customers when they check out. Always read the fine print and know what you're getting into - understand all the charges you have to pay for, and if you have to pay extra when you shouldn't, you shouldn't be paying.

Also ask the hotel about exchanging an expiring mileage card or one that you don't wish to use anymore - you just might be able to trade in your frequent flier miles for hotel reservations.

Sometimes, hotels provide free airport pick-up you can use this as bargaining tool. Ask for a free pickup when haggling so you'll get something extra even if you pay the full price.

As you edge closer towards peak season, you'll have to pay more on your reservation, so it would be good if you can book your reservation well in advance.

It all depends on the hotel - sometimes, you can get cheaper weekend rates and in other cases, weekdays would be cheaper - do not forget to ask your agent or anybody in the hotel which days would be cheaper so you could be able to plan your trip accordingly.

Always ask for a confirmation number when you reserve a room, so that they can't say that they didn't receive your reservation.

Are You Prepared For Your International Flight?

By Yolanda Reyes

You need to prepare several things before you go to an international flight, whether you're traveling for business or pleasure. Being prepared helps your trip run smoothly, without any unnecessary delays.

International travel costs a lot so before you leave home, you would want to make sure that all your arrangements are confirmed. The things you need to do include confirming your accommodation, your flights, car rental, as well as other travel arrangements you've made. To avoid any disputes when you arrive at your destination, print a copy of any online confirmations or emails and keep them with your airline tickets and passport.

Depending on your destination, a visa may be required in order to visit some countries. Besides giving you advising you on this requirement, some travel agents will also arrange visas on your behalf. Proof of identification is important, so check what will be considered a valid identification document in the countries you are visiting. In most cases, it's enough to have your passport and driver's license. You will also need to arrange travellers' checks and foreign currency with your bank. When you first arrive, you will need some cash for taxi fare and tips but make sure you keep cash to minimum for security purposes.

Packing your bags is the next step once your travel arrangements are made. Airport regulations can differ from one country to the next so you need to be familiar with the regulations in your country and the country of your destination. In terms of the allowed weight of bags and what you can pack in your carry-on luggage, it's possible that different airlines have different regulations.

For first time visitors, international airports can be confusing since they're usually large spaces and it can be especially confusing if the signs are in a foreign language. You can learn how to get around them by visiting their website and printing the map. When you arrive at your destination, you can also learn what to expect by checking their screening procedures while you are on their website. Arriving before take off for international flights would depend on the screening procedures and airport requirements, which will vary between 2-3 hours, so you need to check what time you have to arrive.

Your bags should be labeled and secured, your home locked and handed to a house sitter, and make sure you have all your documentation in hand before you leave so that you can enjoy your trip.

EU to redraft aircraft passenger rights

By Jensen Schloss

After being heavily criticised by carriers and passenger groups, the European Union is planning to make changes to the laws governing the rights of aircraft passengers. EU regulations were brought into the spotlight in the aftermath of the chaos that was caused by the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland last year.

After losing 2.2 billion as a result of airspace closures during the eruption, airlines have argued that the Regulation on Air Passenger Rights was never meant to apply in circumstances where airlines have no control over what's happening.

The Vice President of the European Commission has indicated that the EU is preparing to reshape the regulation in an effort to make the balance of responsibility clearer in the event that airspace has to be closed or flights are grounded by extreme weather. In particular, airlines are likely to see a reduction in their liability.

The EU will also look at how compensation can be made to reflect the fares paid by passengers. After the ash cloud last year, budget airline Ryanair refused to pay compensation, arguing that they would end up paying customers more than what they paid for their tickets. Ryanair did eventually relent, but put a ceiling on the figure passengers could claim.

The European Commission appears to be receptive to the idea that the financial burden should be shared more evenly in circumstances like this. In future, airports that fail to clear snow from a runway, for instance, may be forced to pay towards compensation costs. Additionally, there is an expectation that greater emphasis will be placed on governments' responsibility to intervene and make financial support available if something along the lines of the ash cloud comes along again. Consultations with stakeholders will proceed until the end of 2011, and a new proposal will be announced in 2012.

Sounds like a wonderland doesn't it? Well, certainly not. If you look at things from an economic point of view, Rio de Janeiro is growing at a rapid pace and Brazil is becoming a bigger participant on the world stage. As a side-effect, Brazilians have become incredibly motivated to learn English so they can interact on the international markets. Handily, it just so happens that Brazilian girls tend to be quite lovely. So the fact is really that they will pay you to talk to them, literally. Monkeys, apartments and real estate, oh my gosh! As comes the life in Rio de Janeiro

By Leandro Tipaldo

As soon as you started exploring apartments and real estate in Rio de Janeiro you almost certainly had numerous things in mind. First and foremost was likely the gorgeous beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana. Sipping chilled drinks from you penthouse holiday. Secondly, if you are savvy, you might have considered the tourist attractions. Christ the Redeemer, the sugar loaf and most certainly the crazy nights on the town in Lapa. This was likely what you were thinking when you started to cruise for sale ads in search of a permanent house in Brazil. But there was probably something you didn't anticipate. Monkeys.

Yes, I said monkeys. What you think about while you think monkeys? Certainly it suits the optimal tropical environment. So you've probably got it in your mind, "oh wow, how exotic that must be." I can have my own, personal little monkey! It will be great! I will be the envy of all my friends back home. Maybe I can even capture some and put them up for sale.

Well slow down there buckaroo. Before you decide to invite monkeys into your apartments and wish for the little rascals to be running all over your real estate, I've got information for you. The first bit is going to be that inviting a monkey into your penthouse in Copacabana or Ipanema is best compared to inviting a vampire into the home. Oh sure, they may be charming little creatures and you will easily be enticed by their exotic features. However, you may invariably be rendered powerless and your lovely little piece of real estate will soon be overrun.

The truth is, monkeys are the raccoons of Rio de Janeiro. They are smart, cunning little creatures. Once they discover a way into your apartments and they understand that there are kickshaws to be had, well they're going to strategically discover other ways to penetrate. This can be assured. Before long you will be forced to put your vacation home for sale. Evicted as a result of monkeys.

So be warned, secure your doors, shut your windows and keep your bananas disguised .. Those little monkeys are the scavengers of Rio de Janeiro and absolutely nothing will stand in the way of their ambitions. You can take a brief trip to the beach or the store. It's not even vital to travel far. When you return, rest assured that your furry little friends will have made themselves more comfortable. This is a forgone conclusion. So you can't say that I didn't alert you.

Enter Turkish Airlines as a Truly International Airline

By Antonia Joseph

Part of the Star Alliance; Turkish Airlines has gained more strength than ever. They operate 171 flight routes, at the moment, of which 41 are within the country's borders and the remainder is to international destinations.

No one can ever say that Turkish Airlines does not recognize the value of marketing and brand recognition. As a matter of fact, they are very hip on picking out brands and the markets that are affected. For example, American basketball and the contract for NBA star Kobe Brant has been a selection. In February, 2011, Mr. Bryant completed a commercial for the airlines that has a humorous element to it. Recently, the airlines added Caroline Wozniacki to their list. She will lend a hand by promoting the airlines' Business Class service to the European fans of tennis. October 2010 was very busy for Turkey's number one airline.

At the beginning of 2011, Turkish Airlines signed a codeshare contract with US Airways. A codeshare agreement between two airlines permits them to access each other's passenger bookings. This type of arrangement is beneficial for each airline and effectively expands both reach and revenue. Since it's easier to get better deals and there are more flights they can take, these arrangements are also to the benefit of passengers. Travelers going to Turkey or the U.S. will have a wider choice thanks to this codeshare agreement. October 2010 was very busy for Turkey's number one airline.

During the summer of 2010, Turkish Airlines was abuzz with plenty of action. In July, the finished a five year deal with Euroleague Basketball in which the airline will be a sponsor of the global European basketball competition. The new name for the basketball association will be changed to the Turkish Airlines Euroleague basketball for the season that is coming up soon. This really should come as no surprise to those who follow the company's marketing strategy. Turkish Airlines understands the tremendous appeal and reach of sports. The flying public is all a part of it all.

Turkish Airlines has developed and adopted a new form of travel known as Comfort Class. The airlines new Boeing 777 aircraft are the only ones where this service is available. The level of comfort available is taken to a whole new level with seats that are almost 46 inches wide. So that is nearly four feet of seat available for yourself and anything else you care to have with you on your seat. Keep in mind the Boeing 777 is a "heavy" class airliner designed for long-haul flights.

However, this is a standard business practice for most businesses. But still many businesses don't seem to grasp the concept of reinvesting in their own growth, as Turkish Airlines so obviously have. This level of focus has strengthened the airline and given passengers plenty of benefits at the same time.

How To Take Advantage Of Low-Cost Airport Parking

By Carol Lamb

If you are about to take off on a long flight, you have enough to think about when you are getting all of your things together. You want to be able to pull up to the airport and quickly get rid of your car so that you can get inside and start checking in your luggage and heading towards your gate. No one wants to get stuck looking for cheap airport parking as the time runs out until their flight takes off, but what is the best way to eliminate this problem?

Imagine being able to book a spot for your car like you book yourself a ticket on the plane. You will know that when you pull up to the terminal, there is a place reserved for your vehicle that cannot be taken by anybody else and that you do not have to spend hours circling the lot to find. You will be able to simply pull in, park and go.

Not only would this solution save you countless precious minutes at such a hectic time, but it is also affordable and will not cost you nearly the amount of your plane ticket, as some of today's lots seem to do. You will be able to easily afford a service like this and it can be one less thing to worry about as you get ready to go.

Lucky for you, this service is not just a figment of your tired, traveler's imagination, but it actually exists and it is up and running for you to use the next time you are headed out for a flight. You can simply go online to their website to see all of the great things that are there that will make flying a breeze the next time you want to take off.

First of all, there is a list of all of the different car parks available at your airport, so you can see which one you want to use. The prices are there for you to be able to compare, so you can see if anyone is offering a great deal on your flight date or which one is the cheapest in general. You will be able to see any other information they offer too, so that you know where they are located, how to get there from your home, and how to get inside the terminal after you have parked.

When you have picked the place that looks like the best choice for you, you can reserve your spot with just a few clicks on the screen. You will quickly and easily secure yourself peace of mind by knowing that there is somewhere waiting for you to pull in when you pull up for your flight.

You can now plan how long it will really take you from the time you leave your house until you can be inside the airport, checking in. You won't have to waste precious minutes in the parking lot, frantically checking your watch and calculating how much time you have left to check in your bags before they say it is too late.

The accessibility of this service and the ease that the whole thing entails will be enough to convince you that it would be foolish to ever travel without doing this again. You will be assured that you have paid the lowest price and that you can pull up to the airport whenever you want, whether it is rush hour or a holiday weekend, and there will be a big, open spot waiting just for you.

All About Meet And Greet Parking Gatwick Airport, Low Stress And Good Value

By Carol Lamb

Gatwick Airport, about 28 miles to the south of central London, is the second largest airport serving the UK's capital city. London, Gatwick has two terminals and many international and domestic airlines operate from here. There are several Meet and Greet Parking Gatwick Airport operators providing services for travelers. These can provide a stress-free way to arrive at the airport. This short article surveys some of the car parking, and meet and greet services, provided by different operators.

London Gatwick Airport is just south of England's capital city. It can be easily reached by road, being connected to the M23 motorway, which runs south from London to Brighton, and to the M25, London's orbital motorway.

Gatwick, which is London's second airport (after Heathrow), is the base for several scheduled operators, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Aer Lingus. Other airlines, including no-frills airlines EasyJet and Flybe, and charter companies Monarch, Thomas Cook Airlines, and Thomson Airways also operate out of Gatwick. The airport has two terminals, North and South, which are connected by a "monorail" service.

Travelers who are intending to arrive by car to catch their flight, can choose between the airport's own car parks, operated by BAA Gatwick, and various off-site car parks operated by independent companies, such as Airparks and ADS Parking. Internet users can use online price comparison websites to find the cheapest parking option.

Travelers can often save money by pre-booking their car parking rather than paying when they arrive. In fact paying on arrival can cost up to 60% more than pre-booking. Another advantage, if you pre-book, is that there is no chance of arriving and finding the car park is full. Pre-booked spaces are guaranteed.

Off-site car parking operators usually offer "meet and greet" services for travelers. These can be helpful for large parties, or if you have a lot of luggage, are traveling with young children, and for disabled and elderly travelers.

If the traveler chooses a meet and greet option from a company such as Airparks, then the operator will make arrangements for a driver to meet the traveler outside the terminal when they arrive to catch their flight. The driver will then take the passenger's car to the secure off-site Airparks parking amenity. This is convenient for the customer in two ways. Firstly he doesn't have to find the car park and find a space in it, and secondly if he doesn't have to travel with his luggage on the courtesy bus from the car park to the terminal.

The Airparks driver will also make arrangements to return the traveler's vehicle after the return flight. Passengers should remember to contact Airparks if their return travel plans change for any reason.

John Lennon Liverpool Airport Parking Tariffs

By Carol Lamb

It is easy and convenient to leave your car at John Lennon Liverpool Airport Parking. This is the result of the careful attention to detail behind the layout and design of the airport, with particular reference to the range of parking options on offer. Immediately in front of the Terminal entrance foyer is an 'ultra short term' parking area. This is intended for the benefit of those being dropped off at the airport by a third party, who can then drive away. Charges for this option are deliberately set very low to encourage people to use it whenever possible, but it should be noted that overstaying the 20 minutes allowed for this can prove expensive.

Other short term car parks are clearly marked and signposted. Some of these cater for a 'second level' of short term parking, defined as at least one full day, and up to one week.

The longer term car parking facilities are significantly cheaper than short to medium term parking, but the same high, professional level of security is provided for your vehicle in each of the six parking facilities around the airport. None of them is more than 500m from the Terminal, and for this reason there is no need for a shuttle or transfer bus service. There are, of course, special arrangements for passengers with mobility problems, and a reserved parking area for those who have a Disabled badge can be found immediately outside the terminal entrance gate.

A Premium parking facility also exists, which has the advantage of a chauffeur who will park your car for you while you check in, and ensure that the car is ready on your return.

Situated about eight miles from the centre of Liverpool, John Lennon Airport has swiftly become a commercial success. One of the many hotels serving the airport was recently voted number eight in a national poll: only three hotels outside London figured in the top ten. The survey was taken exclusively from comments made by the customers themselves about their own experiences. Current parking tariffs can be viewed on our user-friendly website, and for your peace of mind we always confirm your bookings immediately and in writing.

Along the airport approach road there are currently at least three hotels which offer their guests a free courtesy car to meet their flight. For anyone who has booked an early flight and has travelled some distance to get to Liverpool, it may be worth considering leaving your car at one of these hotels rather than in the airport itself.

The main difference concerning hotels and motels in Rio de Janeiro

By Claudio Tostes

Virtually anyone who is a newcomer to travel in Rio de Janeiro ought to learn about some important matters when you are on your vacation. One significant lesson to take note of is the difference between hotels and motels when it comes to Brazil. From an American standpoint, you likely would think that the difference is price and quality of these kind of rentals and you may keep this notion for some time as you stroll the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana. But you will soon learn that to Brazilians, there is a difference. A big difference.

What's this difference you ask? Well, to put it blunt and basic, hotels are for slumber and motels are for intimacy. There really isn't any other way to put it and this is a easy fact in Rio de Janeiro as well as the rest of Brazil. So when you are taking a holiday here, it's really something that you should be aware of. If you're sipping that martini in a quaint little bar of Copacabana or Ipanema and somebody mentions a motel, you'll know precisely what they're discussing

One may be questioning as to why this is. While in the United States, motels are generally rest stops for travelers who are looking for economical quarters for the night. Just a place to snooze. In Brazil, you need to look at things from a cultural standpoint. Most people live in close quarters. It's not usual for Brazilians to have their own apartments, rentals or flats. Usually people can't afford these kind of accommodations alone, so it's very typical to live with their families.

Now this may well change gradually as Brazil becomes economically more influential. As apartments and flats are springing up all over Rio. But then again, probably not since this principle is so imbedded in the culture. Privacy is certainly something hard to find. Usually people in Brazil who are travelling on business are going to gravitate toward hotels anyway. Though, as infrastructure becomes more enhanced, you may have more people who have lower budgets. This lower middle class will likely be the kind that may use motels as a less costly alternative and lead to a cultural shift.

Having said that, right now, at the time of this writing hotels mean sleeping and motels mean intimacy. Simple enough right? Shouldn't be any more errors as to the reason for this type of real estate. Hopefully this has settled some confusion to anyone who might be coming to Rio de Janeiro and help them avoid a potentially uncomfortable situation of which accommodations to use. But then again, perhaps you should look at some apartments instead.

Discovering apartments in Niteroi, a low cost alternative to Rio de Janeiro's Ipanema and Copacabana

By Louis Araujo

When discussing Rio de Janeiro, people generally think about it as a destination to travel. Going on that sensational vacation, perhaps hoping to never come home again to their lusterless flats and apartments. But what about that person who basically does decide to never come home? How do the natives get by here? Beach front real estate apartment penthouses in Ipanema and Copacabana aren't necessarily going to be inexpensive for everyone and certainly not hotels. So while we're on the subject of cost, perhaps you should think of accommodations for sale in a place like Niteroi.

Niteroi is a city just outside of Rio, but truly is quite readily available. While still being a nice place, with some beaches of its own, the big benefit to living in Niteroi is the fact that the price of living is much lower than equivalent places in Rio de Janeiro. So it is definitely an alternative worth taking into consideration if you are thinking about a permanent move to Brazil. Though, while it isn't a tourist location that is sprawling with hotels fit for people who want to take a holiday, it does offer a wide selection of cheap apartments, flats and other rentals. Making Niteroi a viable option for a long term stay or real estate for sale.

While cost is certainly an advantage, there is undoubtedly a downside, that being ease of access. People who have rentals in Niteroi have a commute to struggle with, since the city is positioned across the bay from Rio de Janeiro. During rush hour, the bridge can be a nightmare. The good news is, there is another solution. There is a ferryboat that goes between the cities making for a far shorter trip. In 15 minutes you can be in downtown Rio. This makes penthouse accommodations in Niteroi a far more viable option.

Real estate possibilities are also a consideration, though there are perhaps better places in Rio to invest your money than Niteroi. While it is located in a excellent, livable place, Niteroi just isn't experiencing the economic explosion of hotels and shopping malls that can be found in other locations such as Barra da Tijuca. Though it can be reiterated that it is still a nice inexpensive place to live. It won't automatically be the life that you would experience in Copacabana and Ipanema, but you could certainly visit those destinations on the weekend.

So that's it. It's a place to live that people possibly don't give much thought about, but maybe they should. Anyone that is seeking to transfer to Brazil and has to work within a budget should absolutely give some thought to what Niteroi real estate offers.

Long Haul Flights: How To Entertain Children

By Lawrance Sparky

It is essential that you know how to keep your kids happy if you are taking them on a long haul flight. If children are not happy during the flight then you can expect to find it quite uncomfortable yourself. As long as you prepare beforehand there are many things that you can do to entertain your children on the flight. Below are a number of tips for keeping your kids happy on a long haul flight.

- Your children will be happy provided they are entertained during the flight. Although most long haul flights these days have in flight entertainment for children you cannot depend on this completely. Having something else on hand is essential to avoid your child from getting bored; a mobile games console, toy or colouring book might be a good idea. Your older children might prefer a good book or magazine and these can be purchased at the airport.

- If you have young children then you could buy them a toy which you hide in your hand luggage until they start to get really agitated. If your kids are starting to complain then this surprise toy can help get them back into a happy space.

- Although you will be given a meal on the plane, it still makes sense to take some snacks with you. This is also good because some kids don't like the food that is available on the plane.

- Make sure that your children drink plenty of fluids during the flight because it is very easy to become dehydrated on a plane. If they do end up dehydrated then this can make them very moody and the flight will be unpleasant for the whole family.

- Getting up to stretch their legs can be a good option if kids are feeling a bit suffocated by the plane; of course the seatbelt signs will need to be off for this.
