Traveling Cheap

By Greg Tilley

Rarely used in the same sentence years ago are the words 'cheap' and 'travel agents.' Paying big bucks for their holidays is what people used to do but the whole industry was turned upside down since the growth of the Internet.

In order to compete in the worldwide environment, travel agent pricing has lowered dramatically. Anyone who can afford a vacation or a business trip has access to Internet, and is now more capable than ever of sourcing a good deal. Hundreds of thousands of sites are dedicated to travel and they would allow anyone to quickly and simply book their travel arrangements on their own, for little cost.

As far as travel agents are concerned, hotels and airlines have also raised their prices because they now have the facility and they actively encourage consumers to directly book through their websites. Travel agents have lowered their prices by some margin as a consequence so that they can compete and this resulted in cheaper travel for the customer at the end of the day.

Remember that the travel agents may be charging less but it doesn't mean that the quality is any different from how it used to be. Actually many travel agents, offer better service as well as lower prices to attract more business and retain existing customers.

For example, they may organize activities on your behalf. If you're going somewhere tropical, they might book your scuba diving lessons, or if you're skiing they can organize a great deal on lift passes.

Also, they will be able to provide loads of handy information about the places that you are going to that you can't find online such as about the company or hotel reputations. Aside from currency and time-zones, they are also good sources of local information like customs, languages, and weather. What they can give you is a personal insight into your destination which you will struggle to find on a Google search.

Travel agents don't just provide these services; they also arrange and fix everything, tailored to your requirements. In a nutshell, you tell them what you're looking for, and they make it really happen. If you're looking for the best price for your flights, you might have to look around loads of different websites to hunt for that bargain.

The cheapest agents also have access to the best deals. Aside from saving you a great deal of time and money, they can also scout out the best of the constantly changing hotel and flight prices on your behalf.

You get the best possible deal for your vacation if you look towards a travel agent to do all the legwork on your behalf when you simply don't have the time to do your homework.
