Cruise Expectations

By Greg Tilley

Everyone has options on a cruise. Your experience on the cruise will depend on several things such as how big the boat you'll be traveling on it. Look at other people's cruise encounters to help your decision.

If you're looking at a mega-liner, expect a lot of people. They accommodate many people, and have sufficient room for them, but don't plan to spend much alone time on them. You can expect many things like casinos, activities, dining, pools, and games. Most have spa and beauty facilities, gymnasiums and other sporting activities, as well as games areas to keep the passengers busy. These mammoth cruises offer non-stop activity, entertainment and company.

Smaller ships also are available. These cruises are usually more elegant and have better atmosphere. These will usually have less casual dress codes, but should have spa facilities. There will be more of a neighborly feel. These cruises are less frenetic and more conducive to a romantic getaway or quiet vacation than the mega-liners provide.

There are a few safety tips you should know, no matter what kind of cruise you go on. As you should be anywhere, be alert. Don't leave valuables in the cabin. Stay out of off limits areas and dark hallways. Don't over do the drinking. It is very tempting to start on the colorful cocktails in the early afternoon, but by dinner time, you are likely to be quite inebriated. Too much alcohol can turn into reckless behavior.

Cruises are great vacation experiences. Like a huge resort on water, you won't have to leave the ship to have a fantastic vacation. You'll have great entertainment, great food varieties, and plenty of activity. Although they can be quite pricey, booking far in advance, or very late, can save you up to 50% on your vacation cost. Watch your spending on board. You will be provided with a C Note Card, which is like a credit card you use on the ship - and you will have to pay it off in full before you disembark! Take advantage of some of the shops and ports that you visit. Enjoy your trip.
