Going On A Los Angeles Vacation - Top Five Destinations

By Jewel Chesson

Los Angeles is a city that's difficult to navigate, especially if you're a tourist. Most people live and play in the cities around Los Angeles, not in downtown L.A. itself. There are many surrounding cities in the Los Angeles area, which include, but are not limited to chintzy destinations like Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, or surfer's paradise-type cities like Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach. And, of course, don't forget Anaheim, where Disneyland is located. So you might want to read this quick guide if you're planning to go on vacation in Los Angeles -- it's best to stay in one city to maximize your trip, so read on for some helpful hints.

Beverly Hills

Visit Beverly Hills if you're looking for a taste of the excitement and splendor associated with fame, fortune and in most cases, celebrity. You can visit the hotels the stars frequent and go shopping, maybe side-by-side with a favorite actor or actress! You get sunshine all year round in Beverly Hills and while you may not actually afford one of the gorgeous homes in this locale, you can still enjoy looking at them!

West Hollywood

West Hollywood is where you can find Sunset Strip, which is fairly close to the rest of L.A. and a great example of Angeleno culture and history. The Sunset Strip offers dining, shopping and nightlife that are legendary. West Hollywood is also where you can find the Pacific Design Center, along with a plethora of art galleries and showrooms that would be a treat for anybody who appreciates good art.

Santa Monica

With the huge number of celebrities that consider themselves regulars of this city's nightlife scene, the breathtaking beachside and "all-time" nighttime environment, Santa Monica is one of Los Angeles' most beautiful and popular surrounding cities. Feel free to take in the nightlife by having a great time at one of the many bars and restaurants, but remember, parking can be a challenge! To avoid problems with finding parking, take a taxi or a limousine.

Contrary to popular opinion, limousines are quite inexpensive forms of transportation in Los Angeles, so hesitate not to take one as your mode of travel around the city. Limousine companies in L.A. usually charge per hour. If you want to get the best prices, check with a couple of limousine companies for their rates. And if you book your limousine a couple of days in advance you may be able to get a good rate.

Manhattan Beach

Travel three miles from LAX (Los Angeles International Airport, natch) and you'll find Manhattan Beach, which is also orientated south of Santa Monica Bay. The fishing is great at the pier located at the end of Manhattan Beach Boulevard, and it measures a whopping 928 feet. You can also visit the aquarium and marine studies lab located in the pier without paying anything.

Anaheim

If you're traveling with your family, visit Anaheim, about an hour south of Los Angeles. Drive about one hour south of Los Angeles to make your way to the home of Disneyland, the happiest place in California, if not the world. Take a ride on one of the numerous all-time favorite rides at Disneyland such as Space Mountain, and have your kids fraternize with Mickey, Donald and the rest of the gang. And a visit to Disneyland is NOT complete without the fireworks displays and parades!
