Before You Take That Trip Take A Look At These Ideas

By Morton Meintjes

A collection of tips on how to begin traveling smarter and safer makes the perfect starting point for a beginner to begin planning their own trips a bit easier. Below is just such a collection that will hopefully assist the eager novice into eventually becoming a pro when it comes to traveling.

Flights

Try to schedule layovers that are a minimum of two hours. While direct or nonstop flights should be your first choice, sometimes a layover is inevitable. By scheduling a long layover, you may slightly increase your travel time, but you will also be less likely to miss a connecting flight if there is a delay.

Book your reservations and flights with the exact name shown on your government identification card. Although you may typically go by a nickname or middle name, for the purpose of ticketing, use your given name. Small name differences can be a huge headache when trying to get through security, especially abroad where it isn't obvious that Bill is short for William

When booking your flights, try to travel at off-peak times. During the peak times of an early morning and late afternoon, airports tend to be more crowded and flights tend to be fuller. By flying during off-peak times, you'll reduce your wait and security and decrease the overall stress of your trip.

You can often save money by booking flights that have one or more connecting flights. However, you should be realistic when assessing the layover time. If it is too short, you risk missing your connecting flight. If the layover is more than a few hours, you could be stuck at the airport for a very long time.

Staying longer can equal bigger savings. Airlines will offer better rates on round trip tickets based on the amount of time between flights. Hotels as well may offer discounted room rates for three or more days with them. Hotels can offer these rates since a booked room is generating more income than an empty room.

When traveling, always be sure to dress in layers. It is so much easier to take something off or put it back on depending on the temperature, instead of sitting and regretting that you dressed too warmly or not warmly enough. This is especially true on flights where you, most likely, can no longer get a blanket to keep you warm.

Travel on a Boeing 767 for your flight. They have less middle seats because their rows are set up in a two-three-two arrangement instead of the traditional three-three rows. Their total number of seats range from 180 to 250 depending on who you fly with, and they normally operate for long domestic flights. By booking with a Boeing 767, you are more likely to get the type of seat you want.

With the information that was presented in this article, it is quite plain to see that traveling does not have to be a huge hassle. All you have to do is put these techniques to use and you can actually travel stress free. So do not toss and turn, instead just get yourself ready to go.
