The Good Living In Italy

By Robert Trivett

When Italy is mentioned, most people associate it with style and good life. Italian food is so flavorful, and they are made with a desire to serve only the best.

The kitchens all over the country try to outdo each other with new recipes for variety.

But what drives the Italian people is their passion, their zest for life. Nowhere else is life lived with so much enthusiasm.

The boys cruise by street cafes in their open top sports cars looking cool, trying to catch the eyes of the girls. The women drink coffee wearing designer clothes, pretending not to notice them. This is a modern-day mating ritual that goes on and on.

In other parts of Italy, tourists are swarming to see the beautiful country.

Many people visit Rome to see the Colosseum. The ancient ruin which was brought to life in the movie "Gladiator" really is very impressive in real life. It was built back in 80 AD, and so many soldiers died there after being thrown into to the lions.

In Rome, there's the Vatican. It's not technically part of Italy, since it's an independent state and is the smallest country in the world. The St. Peter's Cathedral is considered to be Christianity's finest Renaissance church. Tourists also flock to Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. But you have to book your visit in advance because of the crowds.

Assisi is a small town in the mountains that overlooks Perugia. In this place, you should visit the 14th century fortress of Rocca Maggiore. Assisi is also the birthplace of St. Francis.

Milan is found in the north of Italy. It's well-known for the fashion business and fantastic shopping. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is even believed to be the oldest shopping mall in the world.

If you go to the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, you will see the sketches of Leonardo da Vinci. It is one of the main libraries of European culture.
