One Up Side To A Bad Economy Is That Securing Cheap First Class Airline Tickets Just Got Easier

By Jorge B. Crabtree

For years now I've been totally devoted to finding ways to obtaining cheap first class airline tickets and here's how that happened. My first time to experience a first class trip occurred quite unexpectedly when I was on a trip from London to New York. I guess I'd been rather busy because I had no clue that I was carrying a first class ticket until I was well on my way to the ticket counter at Heathrow Airport. I only just happened to look at my ticket to get ready to give to the agent when I saw the words First Class boldly printed across the ticket. I was absolutely sure that a mistake had been made but it was a mistake that I really didn't want to reveal to any airport officials who might feel obliged to take the ticket from me and rectify the mistake. I didn't even attempt going to the first class counter but instead started walking in the direction of the economy class window but before I'd taken more than a couple of steps I was stopped by a security guard. She asked to see my ticket and passport and after quickly examining my documents she asked me how I'd succeeded in having only one bag if I had been traveling for 30 days. I thought I was in for some rough questioning but when she saw I was traveling first class she eased up and escorted me the rest of the way to the first class ticketing counter leaving me with a friendly wish to have a pleasant flight. It occurred to me then that I was only just beginning to experience the first in a long line of first class amenities and as it turns out I was completely correct.

Finding cheap first class airline tickets was virtually impossible way back then. But I can assure you that if you were ever lucky enough to fly in the front of the plane with the elite group of first class travelers; it would turn out to be an experience you'll always want to repeat. Fortunately, the wretched economy we find ourselves in now has proven to be a great provider of opportunities to fly first class cheaply.

Having some time to invest is a big advantage for getting cheap first class tickets. Now that we have the Internet available to us, it's much less complicated to do. One of the very first tasks you'll need to do is to identify low demand flying periods. That usually indicates flying during the middle of the week or late at night or even very early morning. But, don't automatically exclude the weekends. There may be a gem of a deal tucked away on a Saturday or Sunday.

A lot of people have the wrong idea about what travel agents do but if you go to them they can help take some of your workload when you're looking for cheap first class airline tickets. They have some of the richest resources accessible to them and that's what they're trained to do. Best of all, they won't charge you for the assistance.

Arrange to get to the airport as early as you can. Surprisingly cheap upgrades are periodically available at the very last minute. Whether you're traveling business class to Europe or you're looking for the full fledged luxury of a first class ride in your own country, if you're content to haggle politely at the last moment you might just get what you're looking for. But you must be early so the airline agents know that if there's a deal to be had there's a ready buyer available.
