"For The Last Time, We Are Not There Yet!" - Family Road Trip Survival Guide

By Clifford Gill

Travel is increasing on a yearly basis, according to the U.S. Department of Energy - and this year, the roads will be littered with more vehicles on their travel routes. While family travel may be a great bonding experience, it can also be a pain in the you-know-where. Here are just a few quick and easy tips you could use to make your vacation fun, amusing and stress-free!

Child's play can combat boredom. It's almost like hearing the Psycho theme. What is it about these words that go straight to a parent's spine? Keep kids entertained with some great car games that make getting where you're going half the fun. Magnetic board games, portable video games and classics such as the license plate game, "I Spy" and the alphabet game will keep energetic kids in good spirits and actively engaged no matter how long the journey.

Smart use of stops. For sure you're going to pass by one of those rest stops, and when your kids return to the car, you don't want them bringing any new friends with them. Mom, Dad, say hello to the germs and bacteria I met at the rest stop - to avoid this from happening, you'll want those microscopic miscreants to say hello to your little friends, namely hand sanitizer or Lysol Disinfectant Spray, perhaps. Keep your kids clean at all times just in case the last drop falls somewhere it shouldn't with paper towels or Wet Wipes.

Eat the right food. It's your call - you can dine 'n' dash at the most convenient rest stop, along with the average family going on their own road trip. But roadside dining doesn't always offer the healthiest choices. Instead, keep your family's bellies full with snacks that you can eat right in the car, such as trail mix, string cheese, fruit roll-ups, bottles of water, and fruit. These easy, convenient snacks are yummy (for them) and healthy (for you).

Guarantee enjoyment for everyone. Choose a place where the grown-ups and kids alike will enjoy. It may be a tried and tested route to go to a place that provides amusement for the kids, but Mommy, Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa and the teens should not feel like chopped liver! We've scoured the entire United States for some great vacation spots for the whole family, and here are just a few of them - Orlando, FL, Anaheim, CA, Hershey, PA, Yellowstone National park and Williamsburg, VA.

Family vacations can be chaotic but immensely rewarding. Just follow the simple tips we discussed above and you'll have more of the latter and less of the former in your next trip.
