Should You Choose A Guided Tour Or A Luxury Travel Vacation Package?

By Alice Nance

You have finally come to terms with the fact that you are ready for a luxury vacation. All you have to do is to call your travel agent. And surely, as soon as you get on the phone with your travel agent, she will ask you if you prefer to take a cruise, or if you would rather go with a tour or with a travel package. You're pretty sure you don't want to go on a cruise, but what about the other two options? And, what are the differences between a tour and a travel package? Since both options offer certain advantages and inclusions, travelers should be familiar with the terms for each.

What are definitions?

When you are considering booking a tour for your luxury travel vacation, keep in mind that "tour" implies several things. First of all, a tour is usually guided, and consists of a group of other tourists. A vacation package, instead, is considered a full package which includes your flights, hotels and rental cars. You can add or subtract guided tours in your vacation package.

What is your vacation budget?

Tours are usually not too expensive. You will usually lodge at one or more of the better hotels in the area. All your transportation is included, such as to and from the airport and transportation to all the local sites and tours. All the attraction tickets are calculated into the price, so you will not have to pay entry fees to art museums or shows. you can even add extra excursions and tours to the package. Most tour packages will also include some meals. If you select a luxury travel vacation package, only fees related to your air travel, hotels and rental cars are included. Some city tours offer a free breakfast, but it is definitely not the custom.

What is your individual preference?

So, which is better, a tour, or a vacation package? The answer really depends on what you want to do while you are there. If you are traveling to historical areas such as Rome or Paris, it is better to go on a guided tour and have all entry fees covered. However, if you are not interested in touring the main attractions and you just want to be there to absorb the culture, a luxury travel vacation package is better. if you go to Hawaii or Jamaica, for example, you wouldn't probably want to go on a guided tour. Chances are you just want to bask in the sun and relax. Consider where you are going and what you want to do on your vacation.

Now you know what the differences are and it is up to you to make a decision. Looking at the definitions, a tour and a luxury travel vacation package each offer something different. They include different things and they are priced differently. It's really down to what you want to do and the things you wish to see and do. Your travel agent can probably give you good suggestions, but now that you are informed you will be able to even make better decisions on your own.
