Traveling - Do You Need Travel Insurance?

By Ida Green

You have almost certainly been dreaming of taking an overseas vacation and imagining how much fun you are going to have on the beach and at your vacation resort. Although planning for vacations can be a lot of fun, you also need to plan in case any problems happen while you are on holidays. Just because you are on a wonderful holiday, it does not mean you are completely carefree. Here is an example, people who are on vacation often face financial losses due to events one example is thefts, accidents or illnesses that occur while they are on vacation.

The Australian government has made public some statistics that show every year there 900 Australian tourists die, and 1200 Australian tourists are hospitalized while traveling in foreign countries. A hospital stay in Southeast Asia can cost a thousand dollars a day, and a tourist on vacation without travel insurance will almost certainly be responsible for paying the entire bill.

If you must reschedule you might lose part of your accommodations that you have already paid for and you may need to find accommodations where you end up stranded, basic travel insurance will cover any losses and additional costs you incur.

When you are traveling by plane, you can be faced with canceled trips or you may miss a connecting flight thanks to delays that are beyond your control. When this happens, you may be stuck in an airport for many hours, or you might have to pay for hotel accommodations while you wait for the following flight. By having a policy that covers flight cancellation, you will be covered if your flight is canceled.

It is not expensive, so there is no excuse for not using this precaution. You should take out a comprehensive policy to cover every possible problem that could arise that is insurable. If you are on a tight budget being insured is even more important. You certainly do not wish to get stranded in another country and not have enough money to get home should you be robbed or lose your wallet.
