Two Different Types of Airline Miles Credit Cards

By Shannon L. Hilson

Wouldn't it be great to get hold of such a credit card which would give away free tickets to you every now and then? Such cards are available out there, even though most people usually do not get to know about them and miss out on such good opportunities even if they are a loyal customer. Choosing the right card for you is not an easy task and involves a great deal of planning and homework.

This step involves a lot of planning, and one has to think in terms of the future, as to whether the card that has been chosen would also have a benefit later, or would create problems. If you have seriously made the decision of grabbing this opportunity, then the following tips would be of great help to you.

Initially, one should know what airline miles cards are basically about. Not many people are usually aware that they come in two different types, which consist of air mile rewards and frequent flyer cards. Are you fond of traveling? There is nothing that could be more rewarding to you than a frequent flyer card in that case, and you should make it a point to get one as soon as possible. If you do not travel a lot, then you should not be considering this card, but something else, as this would not be of much use to you.

Not only this, but frequent flyer cards are usually in association to one airline, and its customers have the chances of receiving miles at a much quicker rate as compared to other cards. The miles also have cash value, while one can collect them up in an account. The miles can be bought, sold and donated according to the person's wish.

There are a few points which have to be kept in mind and considered in detail, regarding frequent flyer cards. These include the annual fee and interest rates of such cards. Usually airline cards have a high rate of annual fees and interests, which can be a bit problematic for customers to pay. The best way to figure out what you have to do is to weigh the costs that you will have to pay against the benefits that you will be receiving from these cards.

Just make sure that you do not end up carrying a balance due to these cards, because their interest rates may vary from other cards and be quite high. The interest rates and annual fees that may have to be paid would pinch the infrequent flyers the most, because they would not be getting as many benefits as all.

On the contrary, airline reward cards are not linked up to any particular airline. This works by providing benefits to people by giving points on every purchase that is made. These cards do not have the benefit of accumulation which is present in frequent flyer awards; however the points that are earned can be redeemed for miles at any time.

Moreover, people who own air mile reward cards can also get hold of some additional benefits such as hotel accommodations and savings on the purchase of gas.
